Taking Root in Groups

Discipleship happens in a wide variety of contexts.  Sometimes a men's group, a women's group, a group for single moms, an accountability group, or recovery group is a more comfortable way for us to grow in our relationship with each other and with Christ.  Because of this, we offer the following groups that meet on a regular basis:

Men's Groups:

United Methodist Men

We are a group of men that gather on the first Wednesday of every month at our main campus.  At 6:00 p.m. on those evenings we gather for a meal, followed by a program at 6:30 p.m.  Men of all ages are invited and welcome to attend.  Keep an eye out on The Messenger and on the news page of this website for more information about upcoming events.

Women's Groups:

United Methodist Women

We are a group of women that gather with a particular focus on missions, especially as it relates to missions involving women and children around the world.  We gather on the second and fourth Thursday of every month at our main campus.  We begin at 9:30 a.m. with the business part of our meeting that is followed at 10:00 a.m. with a program.  Women of all ages are invited and welcome to attend.  Keep an eye out on The Messenger and on the news page of this website for more information about upcoming events.

Recovery Groups:

We are committed to a holistic approach to ministry.  We believe that transformation should free us from all of our hurts, habits and hangups.  To that end, we are intentional about helping others through the things that they wrestle with in their lives.  Here are some of the opportunities that we currently have available:

This is our Christian based 12 step meeting that is focused not on the differences of our dependencies, but rather on the healing and wholeness that is offered to us in an every growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

We are open to all regardless of what the issue is that we are wrestling with.

If you or someone you know is looking for a safe place to process and work through issues of recovery and the Christian faith, we invite you to join us for Came to Believe.  Our new schedule will be beginning soon.  Please contact the ALdersgate Trinity Campus for more information (409-985-8861).

Midweek

Under the Encounters umbrella, we host a class called Midweek Encounters on Thursday evenings at 6:00 p.m.  We begin each gathering with a meal that we eat together followed by about an hour of studying in which we look at the 12 steps of recovery from the perspective of Scripture.  This group meets in the Fellowship Hall at our Aldersgate Trinity Cmapus.

We believe that everyone can use the 12 steps, whether overcoming anger or an addiction.  This is because the 12 steps are rooted in the Scriptures and the Christian way of living.  These classes meet weekly and run throughout the year and all meals and materials are provided to the participants free of charge.

If you would like more information about this or other ministries that Encounters sponsors as an outreach of the United Methodist Temple, check out their blog at http://encounters-umtemple.blogspot.com/ or on their webpage at www.encountersumt.org
